I have nothing against him but what he was trying to do is not something a team can deal with. I know they said they worked around the schedule but when you're maintaining a job outside of competitive gaming while trying to go pro, you are opening the possibility of your mind being elsewhere in times where you need to be focused on League which is highly demanding.

Reading this really made me realize how important it is for teams to provide salaries for their players. It's important for teams to pursue sponsorships and get some source of income. I have always seen professional gaming as something that can be sustained by streaming, but it really can't. Streaming can make you extra cash in times where practice is slow or at the beginning of a season when nobody has much to lose, but when it comes to major events, you really need some income.

Nhat having to stream to support himself is equally as bad as Unstoppable's situation. Honestly, I think that if Evo stayed independent, dropped Unstoppable, and pursued sponsors as their own independent team, they might have found themselves in a sustainable situation. If you look at other esports or heck, even other teams in League , teams sustain their jobs with sponsors.

In a situation like Nhat's where he had to sustain himself with streaming, he probably found his mind to be all over the place - having to worry about where he'll get money next month and such. It really sucks to see Evo disband, they were one of my favorite teams, but by the sound of this little article it sounds like they just didn't have it in them to be in the scene.

They sound very poorly organized and took the hard path of trying to sustain without sponsors. They had a lot going for them as EG, they had results, they had personality, they had fan support, etc.

They could have used that to get sponsors. It breaks my heart to read how EVO only started taking their situation seriously after Aphromoo left.

Aphromoo is naturally reddit's most favored player out of the 5 of them since he is the biggest streaming personality, he's my favorite as well , but this makes it seem that he really let his team down, not giving them the chance they deserved.

They were my number one favorite group before Aphro left, and to learn that the rest of EVO, especially Nhat, dedicated so much for ultimately nothing is so sad. I hope Wings and Nhat get back to streaming. No pro stuff. Just back to streaming solo queue games sole for the sake of giving great information, entertainment, and just having fun.

They all deserve a break from the scene. With every pro player so dead focus on the S2 finals, we are sorely lacking in that department. When EG got picked up by TSM, I expected them to receive a salary to be able to fully focus on e-sports, but from Wings' story that doesn't seem the case.

I think that would've helped a lot in keeping them relevant. Their counterparts, e. TSM has a long way to before they can even consider picking up another team and actually paying those teams a consistent salary. The decision to not be a multi-team organization is very unlikely a cost issue.

I remember seeing on stream once SaintVicious was talking to Aphromoo and told him he was on a "small time team," and this was exactly what he meant. TSM may win in a straight up fight, but given that these teams are all well-established with many sponsors and sources of income, their players are going to be salaried, and they are going to be fairly comfortable whether or not they win.

Even in the NFL, players are paid for being on the practice squad, because teams realize that players are taking a huge risk by leaving everything behind to take a shot. The lack of salary creates a huge impact, as you can clearly see, and I think TSM is foolish to treat them as such. If your B-team is not going to be properly looked after, then don't even make one. I don't think this should be turned into a "badguy TSM" discussion and sorry if you are not it just seems like this could be perceived as such especially because we don't know all the information.

I will also say that this goes beyond the realm of the LoL community and into the economics of e-sports teams. I am still not entirely sure how they make their money. Certainly sponsors and ads from the website count, but without knowing exact figures, it's hard to understand the sustainability of the business. Athletic sports have ticket and merchandise sales on top of the aforementioned sources of income.

As I understand it, the way e-sports works is that usually players will be salaried, and they attract sponsors through their performance to bring more business to the company. Evo go, I don't see where Evo fits in. TSM is perfectly sustainable by themselves. They get loads of page views and they win tournaments, thus giving them a lot of ad revenue and sponsors.

Then you bring on the B team. What does this accomplish? It makes some sense for TSM as a whole because with 2 teams in tournaments, they have a better "chance" of winning. The question is what Evo gets in return. If they are not salaried, then they are getting shafted, because their best case scenario is that they win a tournament and get earnings that way; sponsorship still goes through TSM.

They don't stream too often also, so the TSM brand is unlikely to help them there. TSM is clearly loaded, solomid. They definitely earn several times more than the entire CLG organization. Maybe they could have done a little more for their B team. They have way, way less sponsors compared to CLG. In fact, the Razer contract they singed just before PAX was apparantly their first big contract. Don't know where you get it that solomid. They're not as wealthy as you make it out to be.

It was big news in the subreddit, basically site value evaluator put in a conservative estimate worth of solomid. The traffic numbers and dominant streaming viewercount ensure that Regi outearns CLG based on ad revenue alone. As for CLG Hotshot mentioned that his bank savings is nearly gone. House rental cost is never a big issue, the main thing is getting teammates to move from the comfort of their homes or skip college.

Not gonna happen. Saint said something to the effect of "lol Wings sucks" on his stream last night. I get the impression he says that about a lot of people. I imagine he thinks a lot worse of Westrice; I expected a face-palm from him a few times! Pretty much. Saint has probably called every pro player including himself, for that matter terrible at least once, if not multiple times while streaming.

People shouldn't put too much weight on what Saint says on stream at any time, but especially when he's calling someone bad. Saint, duo queue with Jacky: "You're so fucking baaad. How can you even see the screen? Just because Westrice isn't at his best doesn't mean swap him out. Curse as a team works well with a lot of synergy. It's not about Westrice having a bad game. He progresses at a much slower rate than the rest of the team and it's holding them back.

He was far out-classed by any of the NA top laners. His champion pool is low and specialised and he's often out-played to the point of being non-existant late game, only when saint focusses on getting Westrice ahead does he have an impact.

The jungler should be available to help all lanes, but Westrice always needs it, he shouldn't be a crutch for their weakest player. If he can't lane vs Voyboy how do you think he's going to cope against Wickd or Reapered? Westrice is a nice guy but I feel he's playing for a team that are above his abilities and the disparity hurts them.

I'd be very surprised if they did. Elementz and Cop have a good thing going on. I've never been Elementz biggest fan when he was on CLG, I'd pegged him as their weakest player by far back then but he's playing really well these days, his decision making is pretty spectacular, something I don't think Westrice is capable of if his top laning is anything to go by. It's a shame, as I said I like Westrice but I really don't think he belongs in a top-tier team, I certainly think Curse would be a lot stronger with someone else top.

I heard something about bench players on teams for s3, dunno if they are thinking of having salce as sixth. If Curse benched Elementz I would no longer be able to support them as a team.

He's come such a long way as a player form when he was on CLG, and he's probably the most consistent player on the entire team when it comes to LANS. I guess that's the most important thing right now.

They'll get where they want to be once. I do have one question tho. Being a TSM team, was the organization involved at all with the team? So now you like Wings? A couple days ago people were hating on Wings saying he was a complete douche bag and a bad player.

When they first arrived on the scene they were scary as hell, it really hurt to watch their downfall, such good players and cool guys. Really appreciated this post about Evo a lot, I didn't know a lot about Evo prior to all the drama that had circulated about them, but this has cleared it up all for me.

I hope the very best for all the members of Evo no matter where they pursue from now on, thank you Wings for giving us this insight. Hi Wings, a lot of people liked and still like! Thanks for giving it your all in S2, and even though things didn't turn out the way you wanted, you've still had an amazing opportunity that many here would kill to have a chance at! Stop being mean to salce. No juicy dirt or drama mentioned. No info given on him or any evo member joining another team. I feel like this could gone better, although you cant ask a SoloQ player to be absulutely Good in Premade Games right?

Dyrus himself, at the beggining, when TheRainMan went out TSM he went through a hard time for a bit, and now he is top 3 solotop player. Teams are not made in 1month maybe Moscow f1ve , but most teams take longer to perfect their communication and style :. Can anyone enlighten me if Aphromoo had any factor in Evo's death? It seemed like him leaving the team he helped to create was a major nail in the coffin.

Lol, i wonder if wings realizes that the Salce hate has come from his attitude towards practicing BEFORE aphro left and the no-stream scrimming mentality was added. It was a good read, a long but good read. I hope everything works out for the former members of TSM. Now that regionals are over, I hope you stream again Wings, at least until you find another team.

And hopefully the practice schedule won't be so brutal that you'll have to stop streaming again. Best of luck! Did they miss the fact that there are 8 slots open per region? Do they really not feel like they belong in the top 8? Most important question for me : Why does the reddit community feel entitled enought to think that it deserves to create all this fuss and that it matters to the important people?

I have infinite respect for those guys though, especially on this scene, its been difficult to make a name. I wish there was someway they could give it another go with Aphro back, because they had some really solid skill and talent.

I'm sad they started really focusing in after Aphro left though. Best of luck to them. I'm a bit sad, Evo was born with potencial and died with potencial Even loses to curse which is 2nd team in NA i think were pretty close and felt rather more like a throws than being outplayed. But this is E-sports, things like that happens left and right. Hope to see Nhat and Wings succseed in a future, thanks for good times. Can someone please confirm I am sure its a breach of contract for them to discuss their symbiotic relationship with the TSM brand, but it sounds like it wasn't a very good deal.

So if I understand this right, TSM picked up this team under the Solomid brand, and wasn't paying them salaries or very low wages? Afaik, they were just sponsoring them. Like paying for travel to tournaments and stuff in return for making guides. Something along those lines rather than paying them salary. He won the TSM 1v1 top tournament or whatever it was, he's a very good laner, although the way he portrays himself is somewhat arrogant, he doesn't really do it on purpose.

Share the link. Add a Comment. Pretty frustrating. Wait Reddit is bashing players without any evidence? No, it's impossible. Pretty obvious that Scarra did not mean it malicously. When they lost to azubu. The new posts on any board is a scary place. I would just avoid it at all costs. And people wonder why people have mixed feelings about reddit. Same thing with me. It's like you are me.

Could not agree more sometimes. And it's people like you that make reddit cancerous you just can't let the drama go. Wings feels people overrate him as a player as he had no tourney experience and had only been playing SoloQ Wings joins Evo.

Evo did great at first, but this may have been due to other teams being in slumps at the time Evo gets into comfortably casual mindset, as a team does not take the game seriously enough Things started going downhill when Evo got knocked out in Anaheim by Orb Aphromoo leaves, Evo picks up DontMashMe as they desperately needed an AD carry for the upcoming regionals, shit gets real Evo scrims a lot and got some things fixed with their team's play, such as early game - however conflicting calls etc still made them lose a lot of games Before regionals, Evo silently agreed that regionals would dictate what happens to the roster, and that they probably won't be playing as a team anymore if they fail at PAX.

This was a mutual decision. Wings thinks Salce put in as much effort into playing the game as all the other members, and did not cause the disband by himself Nhat was in a difficult situation, as he had to make money off streaming, while keeping scrims secret to the public.

He is now probably taking a break from league. Unstoppable will probably not be pursuing a league career as he has a full time job as an accountant Mashme had a lot of pressure on him as he was replacing the former 'star player' of Evo Aphromoo , Wings appreciates it that Mashme left Mme to join Evo Keeping Evo up as a team was not feasible as things were and had been difficult for a while, so they disbanded, and this was absolutely a mutual decision by all team members Edit for grammar.

This guy can write. Class act Wings, really glad to see you taking the high ground on this. The man is as articulate in writing as he is in streaming.
