Scaling to Fit in Excel method 2. Both methods will scale your spreadsheet so it prints out exactly one page wide. The number of pages it prints will depend on how many pages tall the scaled down spreadsheet is. Excel will ignore any vertical page breaks you've inserted when you do this, but will keep your manual horizontal page breaks. Of course, if you want the spreadsheet to print out just 1 page tall, and as many pages across as it needs, you'd reverse the values in steps 2 and 3 of method 1 above.

Scaling to fit in other versions of Excel PC and Mac. You can get the same result when printing from other versions of Excel for both PC and Mac. This tip works in Excel as well, but the instructions above are an easier way to do it. We welcome your comments and questions about this lesson. We don't welcome spam. I am quite a savvy Excel user I'm having this same problem and can't for the life of me figure out what's going on I have all the setting where they should be and even the print preview is showing everything normal Look at the Paper Size.

I had a report that I received that had 'Legal' and I was trying to print on 'Letter'. I changed the Paper Size to Letter and it worked fine. Unfortunately Excel doesn't "agree" when I make these adjustments. It still forces part of my document on to a second page. I thought new would be better, NOT!! View; page break preview; drag blue line to where you desire page margin in print to be. Hope this helps ppl. Worked for me, thx! Thanks for the helpful tip!

It worked! Thank you so much - it was very frustrating trying to get Excel printed correctly not too small. Pictures helped. Didn't match my screen. Incorrect instructions.

Too technical. Not enough information. Not enough pictures. Any additional feedback? Submit feedback. Thank you for your feedback! The default margin settings in Excel are pretty wide, and most printers can comfortably print with substantially smaller options. This is a great option to look at it you only need to fit one or two more columns or rows on the page.

You can adjust the margin settings by clicking the Page Layout tab, then clicking the Margins drop-down menu. If you have tow many columns to comfortably fit on the default Portrait orientation, try out the Landscape option. You can choose between the different oreintation options by clicking the Page Layout tab, then clicking the Orientation drop-down menu. Then there are the situations where you just need to change just about everything regarding the way the page is structured and laid out.

In these predicaments, it is easier to just open the Page Setup menu. Click the little Page Setup button in the bottom-right corner of the Page Setup section on the Page Layout tab to access it. Then just start making any necessary changes on this menu. There are several tabs at the top of the window that you can use to navigate through the various settings. There is a setting on the Page Setup menu that allows you to repeat a row at the top of each page.

If you are dealing with a report that is printing out on a lot of pages and contains a number of columns with similar information, then you should use this setting to repeat the row with your column headings on each page. See the image below to find the setting, then simply click the row number containing the column headings that you want to repeat on each row.

You can also use an option on the View tab called Page Break View that will let you see how your spreadsheet will print out with the current settings.
